Blogs

The blogs have been really helpful this year to get my work done. Sometimes in class I am really overwhelmed with school and really do not put too much effort into the journals, but with the online blogs we are able to get it done on our own time. My only constructive criticism for the blogs would be the comments on other people’s blog because most are irrelevant and most people probably do not even read it.

Bullying

I do not believe that bullying can ever be stopped. If everyone in this world was always nice,  generous, and  still confident enough to withstand peer-pressure, then bullying could have a chance of being stopped. The bullies of the world are probably bullying because they have low self esteem and are in desperate need of approval from friends. To stop bullying, teachers must be aware of there surroundings, and take extreme action to fix it. This extreme action does not include a detention because that would make the bully angry, and he could take it out on someone. A teacher must have a long talk with the bully and to scare him or something of that nature. Parents need to take notice in their child and go to the school or other parents to bring light upon the subject. Students must not encourage it; they should also not stand their and do nothing. I think a good method to use is to tell the bully that he looks stupid, ignorant, and no one likes him so he should probably stop. Cyberbullying  is also a big issue because kids are much more confident when they do not have to say something to someone’s face. A good punishment would be to threaten them in some way, but I do not think it will ever be stopped because there is just to many ignorant people and it is so easy to post something anonymously these days. The best way to prevent it is to not be so invested in these social networking sites and just talk to people in person. I used to be obsessed with these kind of sites, but now that I am in high school I really do not even care, and cyberbullying has not affected me in any way.

As I grow older, I will probably never forget the hectic schedule that I have during the school year. In middle school, there was always at least one day of the week with no homework. In high school, there is no such thing as a day of no homework. Especially, If you have honors classes where there is always homework in that class everyday. And there is also sports which are about two and half hours everyday. There should really be a free week every month where a person can catch up with all of there school work. My parents probably don’t remember it, because they probably did not have as much homework back then.

Teaching

If I had 5 minutes to teach the class a lesson, I would make it on finding the meaning to a word. I have always been good at looking at a word that I have never seen before and making an assumption of what it would mean(Mostly because I am taking Latin). If you are taking a test and have absolutely no idea what a word means, first find the root. Look at the root word and try to think of any other word that sounds like it, or looks like it that you know the meaning of. Most likely if you find a similar sounding word to your root word then it  just might have the same meaning. If you do not know any English words that sound like the root word, then you could try another language. The romance languages are Spanish, French, Italian, and English; all of the languages derive from Latin so all the words in these languages are similar in sound and meaning. Maybe there is a word in Spanish that you know that sounds like the root.

Example:   1.Take the word anachronism.   2. Find the root.  3. The root would be chron.  4. Now think of words that sound like chron. 5. A word that popped into my head was chronic.  6. I know that chronic means constant or reoccurring in time.  7. I would then make an assumption that anachronism has to do with time. The ana- before it means wrong or misplaced. I would then conclude that anachronism is something misplaced in time.

Grammar Problems

I always get confused with affect/effect and lay/lie. Any word that sounds the same but has a different spelling or meaning always confuses me. Another grammar problem for me is subject-verb agreement.

Although Leonardo Da Vinci was known for his great artwork, he has invented and hypothesized so many other things. Leonardo was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician, and writer. He was one of the first people to do a formal autopsy on a human being, and  his intricate writings showed how each particular body part was used. He also invented or theorized many items that we use today such as a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator, and outlined a theory on plate tectonics. Leonardo Da Vinci was so ahead of his time, and it makes a person wonder how influential he would be in this day and age. If he was my assistant, I would first have him explain his inventions and theories to me, and how he came up with them. He would then be briefed of the modern world and some of the problems it is facing. Based on these problems, I would have him think up some ideas to fix them. Leonardo will definitely have at least one idea that could help the modern world as his imaginative brain is probably always thinking of something. If Leonardo Da Vinci could come back to this time, he could change the world with his ideas and inventions.

My alternate ending will be a bit more pleasant then the original.  Juliet is fake dead and lying in the Capulet tomb, but instead of waking up after Romeo,  Juliet wakes up several hours before him. Juliet wakes up to find Romeo not by her side so she runs off to find Friar Lawrence. Romeo walks into the tomb and sees that Juliet is not there, but Paris is there standing shocked next to Juliet’s death bed. Paris immediately thinks that Romeo has taken Juliet to shame the Capulet family. Paris yells to Romeo, “Where is she!” Romeo replies in a melancholy tone,”I do not know.” Paris then runs off to tell the Prince about Romeo. Romeo runs back to Mantua to be safe and to send letters to Friar Lawrence about what has happened. Juliet reaches Friar Lawrence and asks where Romeo is. Friar Lawrence thinks he might be in Mantua and sends Juliet there. Romeo reaches Mantua to meet Friar John. Friar John tells Romeo the whole plot that was slowly unfolding and tells Romeo to go to Friar Lawrence in Verona. Romeo and Juliet meet on there way to each other. They decide to live in Mantua where only the people that accept them can find them.

Aging Magic Dust

I would want to use the magic dust so bad because of my curiosity, but I know I could never do that. To see what I looked like, who I am with, and where I am would be amazing, but I would never give up 10 years of my life. Life is all ready short so live each second to the fullest. It would be nice to have the freedom in 10 years. Every kid wants freedom, but sometimes we forget that we have freedom for more then 2/3 of our lives and the other 1/3 is spent as a fun-loving kid with the dependence on his/her parents. From being with your parents everyday to suddenly being by yourself and getting your own food, is a drastic chance. Childhood is the time with the least amount of responsibilities; where if you mess up your punishment is minimal to the punishment as an adult. In 10 years I expect me to still be in college because the job that I want to get requires 4 years undergraduate and 4 years for your graduate. In 10 years, I most likely will not be married or have kids because we/I would want to wait until after college. Life would be drastically different so I guess I am willing to take life slow.

Childhood Memories

There are few things from childhood that a person can vividly remember. The memories from childhood that I can remember the most are always the vacations. One of my favorite vacations was when I was 8, and I traveled to Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a country in Central America that is close to the equator. More than half of Costa Rica is rain forest so we spent many of our days there. On one day we went on a boat that took us through a river into the middle of the rain forest. Everywhere you looked there was a crocodile in the river or on the banks. The tour guide actually found a baby crocodile, and we could see it up close.  On another day we went zip lining through the canopy of the rain forest. We must have been 100 to 200 feet above the ground, and when you where up there you could barely hear the person besides you because there was so much noise from monkeys, birds, and frogs. It was beautiful in Costa Rica, and it was so neat to see all the wildlife.
